How To Increase Your Email Open Rates

While ads are important, we find email to be just as important (if not even more). Majority of the time, people view email marketing as a “simple” thing. “Oh, just email the whole list!” and we say “Lol, no.” We wished it worked that way. From what we’ve seen, targeted lists drive more sales, engagement and higher open rates.

What Is Sender Reputation:

Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL and every other email server rates the quality of your domain/email. It is measured in one of two ways:

  1. Frequency – how many emails are you sending to these servers?
  2. Open Rates – how many people who got your emails actually open them? 

In order to get your emails seen by more, you have to have a highly strong sender reputation. Otherwise, you’ll be living in spam.

Why is this a problem?

Simple, say you have 20,000 people on your list, out of those 20,000 only 1,000 are really engaging. Now, let’s for instance say you send an email to all 20,000 people; guess what genius, odds of your 1,000 loyal customers seeing your emails are slim to none. 

Solution:

Okay, we’re done joking about this. We’re here to be serious and learn something right?

Create segments – in 90% of email softwares (Klaviyo, MailChimp etc) you can create something called a segment. A segment is a list formulated based off specific actions. So, how we like to position it is as follows: 

  • Create a list of people who have clicked/opened your emails within the past 30 days.
    • Email them and only them your campaigns for 30 days.
  • Open up that list to now people who have clicked/opened your emails within the past 60 days.
    • Now email them for the next 30 days.
  • Open up that list even further, to now people who have clicked/opened your emails within the past 100 days.
    • Email them for the next 30 days. 

Do this long enough and you’ll see your engagement go up and spam go down! Yes, this works. We do it practically everyday.
